This suggested itinerary begins in San Filippo and arrives at the CASTLE OF POGNI, a few hundred meters from the town of Marcialla. Along an unpaved road stand the ruins of this ancient construction whose inhabitants swore allegiance to Semifonte and probably shared its destiny, given that we have no further references to the Castle after 1202. There are only a few completely abandoned ruins remaining, and all traces of it will surely soon disappear. At the foot of the hill is the Oratory of Santa Maria.

MARCIALLA ITINERARY:
Castle of Pogni, Marcialla, Castle of Santa Maria Novella, Castle of Lucardo, Parish Church of San Lazzaro, Castle of Tavolese, Certaldo.
Tignano   Barberino Val d'Elsa
1). Along an unpaved road a few hundred metres from the town of Marcialla stand the ruins of the CASTLE OF POGNI, whose inhabitants swore allegiance to Semifonte and probably shared its destiny, given that we have no further references to the Castle after 1202. There are only a few completely abandoned ruins remaining, and all traces of it will surely soon disappear. At the foot of the hill is the Oratory of S. Maria.   2). Continuing the itinerary, we come to the settlement of MARCIALLA, which was probably the village attached to the nearby Castle of Pogni. Its elevated position allows us to admire a beautiful panoramic view. Don’t miss the piazza, with its unusual pentagonal shape, the Church of Santa Maria and the village’s stone palazzos, which were once the residences of the nobility and are today farm buildings or private homes.
  San Michele
3). Moving ahead we come to the CASTLE OF SANTA MARIA NOVELLA, characterized by a Gothic-style entrance with ruined guard towers and a park. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times up until the XV century, when it was given its current configuration.   4). Next on our itinerary is the CASTLE OF LUCARDO, a very old structure of which only the entrance gate remains; the towers are no longer distinguishable, having been incorporated into village buildings.
Vico d'Elsa   CASTELLO di POPPIANO
5). Continuing, we come to the PARISH CHURCH OF SAN LAZZARO A LUCARDO, a three-nave Romanesque construction of Longobard origin. The facade, part of the apse and the right side are visible. Inside are the remains of a crypt and outside, fragments of the Rectory and a small cloister can be seen.   6). Our final stop is the CASTLE OF TAVOLESE, which has a rectangular plan with four circular towers that date back to the Renaissance era.
Linari
7). For those with more time, we suggest combining this itinerary with a visit to nearby CERTALDO, a town of great historical and artistic interest.
